Jason Thibodeaux (director, writer, sculptor) is an award-winning director and co-founder of The Hand and The Shadow. He won Best Experimental Short at the Oregon Independent Film Festival for his film TRI^DS. He painted on LAIKA’s stop-motion feature films Coraline, ParaNorman, The BoxTrolls and Kubo; as well as Guermo Del Torros Pinnochio and Monkey Paw’s Wendell & Wild. Jason illustrated the Spooky Girl characters for this project; had a Savage Dragon Twisted Funnies comic published with Image Comics; and exhibited his fine art boxes at Portland Center Stage and Disjecta, PDX, OR.
Sarah Frechette (lead puppeteer, head of costumes) in an award-winning touring artist and co-founder of The Hand and The Shadow. She studied marionettes with Master German Puppeteer Albrecht Roser and performed with Phillip Huber on Tony Oursler & Dan Graham’s marionette rock opera Don’t Trust Anyone Over Thirty, for which Sarah also built the puppets costumes. Together with Jason Thibodeaux, she won the Unima-USA Citation of Excellence for the traveling trunk show The Snowflake Man, as well as, celebrating their 10+ year anniversary running the live artist collective Night Shade Shadow Theater. Sarah’s studio work includes: Monkey Paw, Shadow Machine, LAIKA, HOUSE Special, Bent Image Lab and on the PBS children’s television series SeeMore’s Playhouse.
Gabriel Temme (head of puppet fabrication) has a background in sculpting, precision manufacturing and Canadian wilderness-rappel firefighting. He worked at LAIKA on the features Kubo, The Boxtrolls and ParaNorman, as a puppet fabricator and mold maker; innovated mechanisms for The Shivering Truth; and was Head of Puppets for BBC’s Moon and Me; and Netflix’s Wendell & Wild. Other Fine Art credits include fabrication and mold maker for artists such as Beth Cavener, Dirk Staschke and La Fabrique. For “The Spooky Girls” he has developed the bodies, new puppet controls and head mechanics for the silicone faces.
